Pony Club Area Horse and Pony Care Competition 09
Another early start this morning saw us travelling to Trebinshwn House, Bwlch in Brecon for the Pony Club Area Horse and Pony Competition run by the Brecon and Talybont Hunt Branch of the Pony Club. I entered two junior teams and one senior team. Kelly Galsworthy trained the junior teams and Amelia Rogers trained the senior team. Kelly (Chief map reader), Amelia myself and the senior team travelled up together and Sue owens and Tracey Bushrod brought the junior teams up to Brecon. The competition started at 10.15 and there were 19 junior teams and 6 senior teams. The seniors tasks included rug care, applying stable and excercise bandages, identifying boots, plaiting, naming clips and care of clippers, assembling a double bridle, shoes and structure of the foot, recognition of objects, feeding fitness and health. The juniors tasks included Putting on a rug and tail bandage and identifying rugs, handling grooming and health of a pony, assembling a snaffle bridle, identifying breeds colours markings and points of the horse, road safety, first aid, tack care and cleaning. The two juniors teams were Talygarn Pink Carys Reville, Kate Owen and Zoe Hughes and Talygarn Purple Libby John, Millie Bushrod and Zoe Morgan. I was very impressed with how well they did, although they were not in the placings and came 7th and 9th in some of their sections they had very good scores. The senior team were Chloe Reakes, Carys Morgan and Emily Hunt who were thrilled to come 2nd with very good scores all round. We were lucky with the weather there was a couple of showers but fortunately not to bad as most of the time is spent outdoors. It was nice to see another Centre as well as ourselves competing along side all of the branches. Photos are in the Gallery on the website. After the competition finished we made our way home with another traditional stop at McDonalds. We travelled there via Brecon and home via Pontypool and Kelly’s directions were spot on, I’m thinking maybe Map reading Badge could be on the cards for Pony Club soon Kel
