Halloween Party 27th Oct 07

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Saturday was a drizzly day but at least it kept the temperatures up so it wasnt as cold as it had been earlier in the week. Lessons went on in the school all day but it was dry enough for the last lesson to be held outdoors which gave the Committee more time to get the school ready. It is a large area to decorate but it looked quite effective at the bottom end with a quite a few goulish looking things hanging up. About 5pm the Bouncey castle, Slide and sumo wrestling equipment arrived followed by the Rodeo Bull and then the DJ. Giving us all just about time to get changed before people started arriving. The 10 members of the committee took it in turns to man the door and collect tickets or a £1 per person. People were asked to donate a plate of food and there was a lovely selection on the tables to pick at. A BIG THANK YOU to all that donated food. There were some super costumes and some people I didn’t recognise. All the photos are on the gallery on the talygarn website. We had a sticky 10 mins when the rodeo bull ceased to work but it was soon sorted with a different extension lead. Some of the adults think they are younger than they really are (Tracey Bertorelli Whiplash off rodeo bull!!!!) Freya’s family came all the way from Essex with Freya’s dad Andrew sporting a pulsating gory bleeding heart on the front of his T shirt. Sharon looked like a major accident (bit like she looks after any night on the town really.) Sheena I think orange hair suits you. Richard we want a costume next year and it had better rival Steve’s. The Nun was great but the less said about the large knickers the better. My attempt at the rodeo bull is getting better each year although not great I think tights don’t help, I did manage 82 secs this year. The practice I had on Jack and Destiny earlier this year did me good. It was nice to see Claire now in Aberystwyth uni and sad that Kai couldn,t make it now he is at Cambridge uni. Both having been pony club members and committee members. Approx 200 people came and it was great to have such a sucessful and fun night. The Committee worked very hard to raise enough to pay for all the equipment hire and even raised enough to donate £100 to Air Ambulance. After midnight when most people had gone the Halloween party turned into my birthday party which continued in my kitchen into the early hours, another Big THANK YOU for all presents and cards from my friends.

Halloween Party

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Every the year there is a Halloween Party held at Talygarn in the indoor school.halloween-party-06-055.jpg This year there will be a bouncey Castle, Bouncey slide, Rodeo Bull, Ducking Apple, Sumo Wrestling and and DJ. Older members of the Pony Club Centre form a committee to raise money to hold the event. This event is non profit making and the funds raised are used to pay for the hire of the equipment, to give to charity and a small amount from ticket sales rolled over to next year to give them a start.Sumo Wrestling I think it is a challenge for them to have to organise an event and raise the money to fund it. The Committee this year consists of Amelia Martha Chloe Carys Jodie Sarah Hannah Emily Jess Alex. They are aged between 11 and 16 years. They usually start their fund raising at the end of August by holding a show jumping show for the clients of the riding school, which means they have to organise the classes, someone has to take entries, two have to judge, whilst the rest have to organise the ponies pick up fences and generally run everything to do with the event. They raised £250 on the Show Jumping and they also made and sold cakes on the day which raised another £39. During October they took children out on ponies for half hour hacks which brought in £170 and today they organised a sponsored walk and made approx £125 HalloweenThey have to raise approx £650 to pay for the hire of the equipment and they hope to raise a further £100 to give to charity. Tickets are £1 plus bring a plate of food, there is drink available. It is a great fun night for all the family and everyone is welcome. Last year we had some great fancy dress outfits.Halloween Party All the committe have worked very hard to organise this event so please support it they need to sell enough tickets to reach their target. Wasn’t feeling to good on Thursday cold coming on I think, didn’t ride in lesson, decided to train for stage 4 Care and Intermediate Teaching (Marina talked me into it) which means giving up my Thursday afternoon off. Marina held a session for intermediate teach on simulated cross country jumping in the afternoon and Nadine taught it to the group lessons in the evening . C test Training is also running on Thursday evenings with Nadine. Woke up Friday, lost voice altogether and feeling really rough. Four BHS students to teach, managed to get voice back in time to give lecture on goodness knows what cause I don’t think I knew what I was talking about but something to do with school rules and Equitation, glad Marina teaches the riding. This sudden cold weather causes a dilemma with the horses, do you put New Zealand rugs on the ones that aren’t clipped yet cause its turned very cold or do you wait till they are clipped otherwise they are not going to feel the benefit of the rugs. They all need clipping now as they are growing such thick coats they find it hard to work in the school and if they get sweaty it is difficult to cool them off without them catching a chill. Leigh has full clipped 4 so far. Leigh full clipped Phoebe and Marina full clipped Destiny Friday. Last year Laura and myself decided to have a go at clipping Blue we knew she would be difficult but she nearly killed us and we didnt even get the clippers on her so we gave up. I thought we would have to sedate her but I have a fairly quiet pair of small clippers so I thought I would give it a try, the only way I could get near her was for Freya to hold her and Jodie to feed her, I actually managed to get a neck and belly off her on one side unfortunately she wouldnt have the other side done which now looks like a patch work quilt. Blue is still difficult to manage but has become easier since I put her on Magic which is a magnesium based supplement, she is not as dangerous now. I also trace clipped Jane in 12 mins (wouldn’t win any prizes though) and took a bit off smartie and Lucy. Must get the vet out next week and find out if Lucy is pregnant Freya did her first clip on whispa. People always look so nervous when they start clipping. There are lots of ponies here that don’t go anywhere so the students are lucky to have them to practice on. Today Saturday has been quite hectic with a lot of group lessons and private lessons and novice hacks going out. Thank goodness there were loads of kids here to help. Show Jumping Competition started at 4pm, quite busy with the novice classes but quieter later. All Full time students compete if they want to. All results are on the competition page of the Talygarn website. Finished tonight at about 9pm. Jennifer will be home tomorrow I am picking her up at Heathrow at 8am.

Its so nice to be home!!!! Flight was delayed 4 hours so arrived home at 3.30am instead of midnight. Started raining as soon as we got into Wales. Quiet day on Monday too recover. Harry went thou. Fortunately no major disasters whilst we were away. Back in full swing today, Tuesday. Rode blue this morning was going to hack Lincoln out this afternoon but rain put me off. Also did an NVQ lecture on Safety and Fire procedure to four students this morning. Isn’t it funny how unobservant we can be. I asked them what colour the fire procedure sign is as this is the colour it is legally required to be. The sign is very visible, on the wall in the middle of the front yard next to the fire extinguishers and above the tap, a tap that is frequently used every day, the students have been here since the middle of september. They all admitted to having read it! Two thought the sign was blue, one thought it had red writing on a white background and the other thought it had white writing on a red background. Its been there 17 years Do you know what colour it is???? Had 17 kids to teach this afternoon from Tonyrefail Comp usually Sharon teaches them the stable management but she has had to go into hospital with a ear infection, so I had them and Leigh taught the riding. Managed to get some paperwork done and then Martha and I cooked tea. Food in Cyprus is pretty much english and we have had some nice meals last week but nothing beats a nice home made roast dinner. Just finished the Yard lists for tomorrow and its Tomorrow now!!!!!!!!!!

The fire procedure sign is white writing on a green background!!!!

Hi to everyone who reads this blog, can’t say i’m missing you all at the minute, with temperatures over 33 degrees everyday, late nights, lie ins every morning, nice food and beaches its tempting to sell up and stay. I mean how many people can say they have been out with Elvis, Abba, Boy George, Robbie Williams and Cher in a week Jenni says hello to all. Wont be long before she is back. Have only seen one horse all week and that was pulling a bride and groom down the main street. Not much in the way of riding schools here not that I’ve really looked but perhaps its too hot. Well time to go an get ready for another night out (Its a hard life) See you all next week!!!!!!!!!! (If i don’t miss that plane)
